Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura is an ancient city located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. It was one of the country’s earliest capitals and served as the royal seat of Sinhalese kings from around the 4th century BCE to the 11th century CE.

The city is highly significant for Buddhism and is considered one of the most sacred places for Buddhists around the world. It is home to major religious and historical landmarks such as the Sri Maha Bodhi (the sacred Bo tree), Ruwanwelisaya Stupa, and Abhayagiriya Monastery.

Anuradhapura is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its ancient ruins, advanced irrigation systems, massive stupas, and remarkable ancient engineering achievements.

Today, it remains an important pilgrimage site and a popular tourist destination in Sri Lanka, attracting visitors interested in history, culture, and spirituality.
